A ZAR forex account records your balance in South African rand. It can make the balance easier to understand, but it does not remove trading risk or guarantee that every transaction avoids currency conversion.

ZAR account check — 15 October 2026: Exness’s official currency list includes ZAR for Standard accounts. Confirm the options offered for your country and account before opening it: the account currency cannot be changed afterwards. A rand account and rand deposit support are separate checks. Want to open a forex account in rand?
Check ZAR availability before you choose. Paying in rand does not automatically give you a rand trading account. Confirm the account currency and conversion charges for your exact account before funding it.

Where do I check deposits and withdrawals?
See our Exness funding answers, XM funding answers and South African payment checklist. Availability depends on the broker, entity and account type.
Three currencies to keep separate
- Funding currency: the currency you send from your bank or payment provider.
- Account currency: the currency in which the trading account records its balance.
- Trading and settlement currencies: the currencies relevant to the instrument and to its profit, loss or charges.
For example, sending rand to a USD account can involve a conversion. Trading EUR/USD through a rand account may also require the broker to convert trading results or fees into rand. Ask how each step works for the specific account.
Does ZAR mean no conversion fees?
No. Check both the broker and your bank or payment provider. A transaction advertised as having no deposit fee may still use an exchange rate with a markup or involve a third-party charge. Do not judge the cost from the deposit-fee headline alone.
Ask what arrives, not just what you send
Before depositing, ask for a written example using a fixed amount, such as R1,000:
- How much will arrive in my trading account?
- Which exchange rate applies, and when is it fixed?
- Are any charges deducted by the broker, bank or payment provider?
- If I later withdraw the same account balance, what currency and amount will reach my bank, assuming no trading or exchange-rate change?
This is a question to ask the provider, not a promise of a specific credit or withdrawal amount. Keep the answer and current fee schedule for your records.
Can I change the account currency later?
Do not assume you can. Some providers fix the base currency when an account is created. Exness’s help centre, for example, says its selected account currency cannot be changed for that trading account. Check the exact provider’s rule before opening; a separate account may be needed.
A rand account is not proof of local protection
Account currency does not establish the location or regulatory status of the company serving you. Read the client agreement, identify the contracting company and verify its relevant permissions in the official register. A payment in rand and a familiar brand name do not replace those checks.
Your checklist before depositing
- Confirm ZAR is available for your exact account, platform and eligibility.
- Check deposit and withdrawal methods, minimums, limits, charges and processing conditions.
- Ask how trading profits, losses, commission and overnight charges are converted.
- Check whether account currency can be changed.
- Compare total trading costs and the account terms as well as currency convenience.
